Siesta and Celebration 2024
When we set our hearts a retreat in Sayulita, we hoped our guests would fall in love with the town just as we did years back.
After an enjoyable drive filled with laughter thanks to our driver, Ceviche, we reached a charming hotel in Sayulita. We were welcomed with refreshing mango and passion fruit smoothies under the sunlit palapa, a lovely contrast to the overcast skies back home. The first day was all about celebration, as Sayulita buzzed with the vibrant energy of Dia de Los Muertos. We eased into our retreat with a yoga session, receiving messages from our departed loved ones while resting in savasana, truly feeling their presence. Dinner by the pool featured homemade tamales prepared by our chef and the most exquisite crème brulee imaginable.
Even though we could have gone to bed afterward, the town's celebrations were just getting started, and we didn't want to miss out, so we explored the town. We strolled past the stunning altars decorated with sugar skulls, candlelight, intricate rice mosaics, and countless marigolds, along with photos of loved ones and all the things they cherished in life. At the stroke of midnight, we strolled to the cemetery to immerse ourselves in the celebration, a stunning blend of mourning and vibrant life. Mariachi bands performed as people sang, and Catrina's danced.
On the second day, we took things at a more relaxed pace with Chuck leading an invigorating morning flow. We strolled through town to Playa Los Muertos, where we spent the day soaking up the sun, swimming in the ocean, and savoring ceviche on the beach. To top it off a intuitive flow as we watched the sunset over the pacific ocean from our palapa.
Day three was all about joy, and what better way to bring in joy then our friend and local yoga teacher Andrea. She lead our morning practice and opened our joyful hearts with sparkles, stars, butterflies, black rectangles, and of course joyful dance breaks during our class. We concluded our day with happy hour at our favorite beach bar during sunset and a yin yoga practice.
On our fourth day, we centered on letting go—releasing everything that prevents us from connecting with our authentic selves and discarding what no longer serves our higher purpose. Nirvana Spa transported us from our hotel to the Temazcal, a sweat lodge symbolizing the mother's womb and the experience of rebirth. It was a profoundly powerful ceremony. Amidst the intense heat, the rhythm of the drums, and the singing, we could truly feel the process of rebirth commencing. We ended our day with a stroll along the beach, witnessing baby turtles being set free into the ocean. We practiced Kundalini yoga on the beach to align with our destiny, chanting as the waves hit the shore and the sun set on another beautiful day in Sayulita, before burning what no longer serves us. The fourth day was impactful.
Our last full day was a chance for us to awaken. We started the morning with a gentle flow practice and conscious connected breath work in the sunlit palapa, with a dove watching over us. Guests had the day to themselves to get massages, visit the beach, or do whatever they wished. In the evening, we shared our last dinner in the palapa, enjoying the best chili relleno I’ve ever tasted. There was more free time to catch one last sunset before experiencing a soothing sound bath by candlelight under the starry sky.
Our time in Sayulita was coming to an end. One final practice, one more margarita on the beach, and one more ride with Ceviche concluded our time for Siesta and Celebration. Until next time Sayulita you have our hearts!
